The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road in Victoria Island, with work scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The rehabilitation will cover the stretch from the Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre junction to Samuel Manuwa/BJ. The government has also announced alternative routes and traffic diversion measures to minimise disruptions during the construction period.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said a contra-flow arrangement would be introduced on the Lagos-bound side of the road, between Samuel Manuwa and the Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre junction, while repairs are carried out on the opposite lane.
Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp and Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and link Bishop Aboyade Cole Street.
From there, motorists can connect to the expressway through School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield. Bishop Aboyade Cole Street can also be used to access School Corner and continue towards Sandfield.
For motorists travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola, Osiyemi advised them to pass through IMB and connect to the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Road. They should proceed to Eko Hotel Roundabout before continuing through Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Motorists leaving Bonny Camp have been directed to use Ahmadu Bello Way to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. They should then proceed through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola/Eko Hotel Roundabout corridor before connecting to Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Those travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Road towards Civic Centre will be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.
Motorists exiting through the 1004 gate have also been advised to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.
Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi are advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street, connect to Akin Adesola Street and proceed towards the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage vehicular movement, reduce congestion and minimise inconvenience throughout the rehabilitation period.
He added that the deployment would also support traffic management as preliminary work on the project commenced at VGC.
The commissioner urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officials and cooperate with the temporary traffic arrangements throughout the construction period.
The state government said the measures were designed to minimise traffic disruptions while allowing the rehabilitation work to proceed along the busy Victoria Island corridor.
