Legal Nigeria is committed to accuracy, fairness, transparency and responsible legal journalism.

Accuracy and verification

We aim to verify material facts before publication, rely on identifiable and credible sources, and distinguish confirmed facts from allegations, opinion and analysis. Headlines should fairly reflect the content of the report.

Attribution and original value

Information obtained from other publishers, official statements, judgments, filings or public records must be clearly attributed where appropriate. We do not present another publisher’s reporting as our own. Reports based on external material should add independent context, verification, explanation or analysis.

News, opinion and sponsored content

News reporting is kept distinct from commentary. Opinion pieces represent the named author’s views unless expressly stated otherwise. Paid or sponsored material is clearly labelled and is governed by our Advertising and Sponsorship Policy.

Corrections

When a material factual error is confirmed, we correct it promptly and, where appropriate, add a clear correction or update note. Minor typographical changes may be made without a note when they do not alter meaning.

Fairness and right of reply

Where a report contains serious criticism or allegations concerning an identifiable person or organisation, we seek relevant context and a fair opportunity for response when practicable. Responses and clarifications are assessed on their merits.

Contributed material

Contributors are responsible for the originality and accuracy of their submissions. Legal Nigeria may edit, decline or remove submissions that are misleading, unlawful, plagiarised, defamatory or inconsistent with these standards.
