Legal Nigeria is committed to accurate, fair, independent and responsible legal journalism. These standards apply to news reports, analysis, opinion, interviews, sponsored material and other content published on this website.
Accuracy and Verification
We aim to verify material facts before publication and to rely on identifiable, credible sources. Court decisions, legislation, official statements and primary documents are preferred wherever available. Reports based on another publication are independently rewritten, checked and attributed through appropriate source links.
Fairness and Right of Reply
Where a report contains a material allegation concerning an identifiable person or organisation, we will make reasonable efforts to obtain a response before publication. Where an immediate response is unavailable, the report may be updated when a substantive response is received.
News, Analysis and Opinion
News reports are presented as factual accounts. Commentary, contributed articles and opinion pieces should be clearly identified. Opinions expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the position of Legal Nigeria.
Sources and Attribution
We identify sources whenever responsible and practicable. Anonymous sources are used only where the information has legitimate public interest value and the source faces a credible reason for confidentiality. Legal Nigeria does not present another publisher’s original reporting, photographs or protected material as its own.
Corrections and Updates
When we confirm that published information is materially inaccurate, we will correct it promptly and transparently. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or clarity edits may be made without a correction note. Material corrections should include an explanatory note stating what was changed. Developing stories may be updated as new verified information becomes available.
How to Request a Correction
Correction requests should identify the article, the specific statement in question, the proposed correction and any supporting document or reliable source. Requests may be sent to legalnigeria@gmail.com. We will review each request on its merits, but submission does not automatically require removal or alteration of accurate reporting.
Conflicts of Interest
Writers and editors should disclose any material personal, professional or financial interest connected with a subject they cover. Where appropriate, the disclosure will be included in the publication.
Sponsored and Commercial Content
Paid publications, advertisements, sponsored reports and commercial partnerships should be clearly labelled. Commercial relationships will not be permitted to dictate the conclusions of independent editorial coverage.
Privacy, Dignity and Responsible Reporting
We consider the public interest, privacy and dignity of individuals when reporting sensitive matters. Personal information will not be published merely because it is available where publication would serve no legitimate journalistic purpose.
