The Secretary to the Kaduna State Government (SSG), Dr AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, has urged members of governing boards and councils of state agencies and institutions to familiarise themselves with the laws establishing their organisations and ensure that their activities comply with the law.

Meyere gave the advice during the inauguration of governing boards and councils of 12 Kaduna State agencies and institutions, conducted on behalf of Governor Uba Sani.

He explained that governing boards and councils were responsible for providing policy direction and oversight, while the day-to-day administration of their institutions remained the responsibility of management. He stressed that respecting the distinction was essential to maintaining effective working relationships and ensuring smooth administration.

The SSG also advised board members to hold statutory meetings regularly, maintain proper records, disclose potential conflicts of interest and follow due process in carrying out their responsibilities.

He described their appointments as a demonstration of the governor’s confidence in their integrity, competence and experience, noting that members were selected from across the state’s three senatorial districts to ensure broad representation.

Meyere urged the newly inaugurated boards to establish clear targets, monitor performance and maintain cordial relationships with the management teams of their respective institutions. He also called on them to ensure that their activities produced measurable results and contributed to the administration’s development objectives.

He emphasised the need to prioritise citizens’ interests, promote fairness and equity, and encourage cooperation among government agencies. He further charged boards overseeing enforcement agencies to ensure that their operations remained firm but respectful of citizens’ rights.

According to him, effective collaboration among institutions was essential to achieving better results, particularly in healthcare, security, education, agriculture and economic development.

The SSG assured the board members of the government’s support in carrying out their duties and advised them to channel reports, recommendations and requests through their supervising ministries and the appropriate government structures.

The 12 agencies and institutions whose governing boards and councils were inaugurated include the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, and the Kaduna State Residents Identity Management Agency.

Others are the Kaduna State Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency, Kaduna State Vigilance Service, Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency, Kaduna State Facilities Management Agency, Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency, Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, Makarfi, Kaduna State Water Corporation, and the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development.

Meyere also highlighted some of the state government’s ongoing development initiatives under Governor Uba Sani, including the renovation and upgrading of primary healthcare centres to improve access to essential medical services.

He said the government had distributed essential medicines and modern medical equipment to health facilities across the state’s 23 local government areas. He added that approval had been given for the recruitment of 1,800 health personnel, with the process of employing additional workers ongoing.

On education and skills development, the SSG noted that vocational training institutes in Soba, Rigachukun and Samarun-Kataf were equipping young people with practical skills for employment.

He also stated that farmers in the state had received free fertiliser and other agricultural inputs for three consecutive years, while road projects, particularly in rural communities, were improving connections between farming areas and markets.
