Yielding to intense public pressure and widespread demands from stakeholders, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially uploaded the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections to its online portal.
According to Mohammed Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, the digital publication serves to complement the physical display of the register conducted nationwide earlier in October. Citizens can now access the database online to inspect their particulars.
The electoral umpire noted that it is currently processing claims and objections arising from the exercise ahead of the official certification and release of the final register of voters scheduled for December 15, 2026. INEC emphasized that the move underscores its commitment to transparency, wider accessibility, and public confidence in the electoral process.
