Professor Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, former Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has claimed that President Bola Tinubu deserves re-election in 2027 because of projects valued at over ₦9 trillion reportedly executed by his administration in Kano State.
Pakistan, who is also a leader of the Izala Islamic group in Kano, made the assertion during an interview with DCL Hausa. He said many residents were unaware that several projects in the state were federal government interventions.
He cited the installation of solar power systems at Northwest University, Kano, reportedly costing ₦6 billion, despite the institution being owned by the state government. He also mentioned a solar power project valued at ₦2 billion for Radio Kano.
The cleric attributed his support for Tinubu to the administration’s projects and what he described as improvements in security. He also referred to his assessment of Tinubu’s record as governor of Lagos State, pointing to the development projects undertaken during his tenure.
Pakistan disclosed that he and other supporters had met with the President about two weeks earlier to discuss issues affecting northern Nigeria. According to him, they asked Tinubu to address the region’s concerns if re-elected.
He also said the group had met with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who presented information about federal government projects in the state. Pakistan said the meeting exposed them to projects they had not previously known about.
However, the claim that Tinubu’s administration has executed projects worth over ₦9 trillion in Kano could not be established by the available evidence.
The claim follows an earlier statement by Governor Yusuf that the Federal Government was undertaking infrastructure projects valued at more than ₦9.5 trillion in the state. The projects include road construction, railway development and other major infrastructure investments.
Pakistan said he would continue to support Tinubu’s re-election bid but maintained that his political activities would remain separate from his religious responsibilities. He also urged Islamic scholars to respect differing political opinions and avoid harsh language when discussing political disagreements.
