Senator Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are not enemies of his party.
Dickson made the statement in a message shared on his social media platforms on Monday, following the inauguration of the NDC’s National Campaign Council in Abuja.
He urged political parties and their supporters to focus on issues rather than hostility, stressing that political differences should be settled through democratic processes and that Nigerians should determine which party earns their votes.
The former Bayelsa State governor challenged the APC to account for its performance since taking office in 2015. He questioned whether Nigerians had become safer and better off under the party’s leadership, describing the 2027 elections as an opportunity for voters to assess its record.
Dickson also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the elections are free, fair and credible. He cautioned security personnel against actions that could compromise the will of the electorate.
Earlier on Monday, the NDC held a National Executive Committee meeting, inaugurated its new national secretariat and formally unveiled its National Campaign Council.
The events were attended by the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other party leaders.
Dickson expressed confidence in the NDC’s chances in the 2027 elections, saying the party would take its message to Nigerians across the country.
