Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has announced that it has successfully covered and replenished 90% of the approximately $6.3 billion in client assets compromised during a major security breach.
The exchange stated that it utilized internal company funds, its Futures Insurance Fund, and the Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) to rapidly re-buy and restore the affected tokens, reinforcing its commitment to absorbing the financial impact rather than passing it on to users.
Key Highlights of the Recovery:
- Asset Restoration: Binance confirmed that major tokens—including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, Binance Coin, and Solana—have been heavily replenished, with remaining work focused on less liquid tokens.
- Withdrawal Resumption: Following the temporary freeze instituted immediately after the complex breach, the platform began rolling out phased withdrawals over the weekend as security checks cleared.
- Industry Coordination: Major stablecoin issuers, including Tether and Circle, assisted by freezing over $2.3 billion combined in suspected stolen funds linked to the addresses involved in the breach.
