The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has called on Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to provide immediate clarification regarding ₦19.18 billion in unspent Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) intervention funds.
The main opposition party raised the query in Makurdi, criticizing the state government over the continued deterioration of public school infrastructure across the state while significant federal education allocations remain unutilized.
Key Highlights of the Demand:
- The Unspent Allocation: The PDP pointed to the reported ₦19.18 billion balance, demanding a detailed account of why the intervention resources have not been drawn down or deployed to uplift basic education.
- Concerns Over Infrastructure: The party highlighted that many public schools in the state continue to grapple with severe infrastructural deficits, dilapidated classrooms, and poor learning environments despite the availability of intervention funds.
- Call for Transparency: Urging absolute financial accountability, the opposition stressed that public revenue meant for human capital development must be managed transparently to justify allocations and meet the educational needs of Benue children.
