The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled December 2, 2026, to deliver judgment in a ₦1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and two others.
Presiding over the matter, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik fixed the judgment date after lawyers representing the various parties adopted their final written submissions.
Key Highlights of the Case:
- The Core Dispute: El-Rufai instituted the lawsuit to challenge the February 19 raid and search of his Abuja residence by operatives of the ICPC and the Nigeria Police Force.
- Reliefs Sought: The former governor is seeking ₦1 billion in damages, arguing that the search violated his constitutional rights to personal liberty, dignity, privacy, and fair hearing. He is also demanding the return of seized items and an order declaring the search warrant invalid.
- Respondents’ Defence: The respondents—the ICPC, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF)—urged the court to dismiss the suit in its entirety. They maintained that the search was executed under a validly issued court warrant and that security operatives acted strictly within their statutory mandates.
