2027: Kwankwasiyya Accuses Atiku of Plotting Against Obi, Kwankwaso

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of attempting to undermine the political interests of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The accusation comes amid growing disagreements among opposition figures over the possibility of presenting a united front against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming election.

The dispute intensified following Kwankwaso’s call for Atiku to reconsider his presidential ambition and support Obi as the opposition’s candidate. The proposal attracted criticism from the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, which accused Kwankwaso of advancing the interests of the ruling party by deepening divisions within the opposition.

The ADC campaign council, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, described Kwankwaso’s position as self-serving and questioned his motives for focusing on Atiku rather than challenging the Tinubu administration over economic hardship, insecurity, poverty and hunger.

In response, Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), rejected the allegations and accused the ADC campaign council of directing unnecessary attacks at him, Obi and the NDC.

He maintained that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, popularly known as the OK ticket, was neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates.

Kwankwaso also dismissed suggestions that the NDC could withdraw from the presidential race at the last minute in favour of Atiku or another candidate, insisting that his party remained committed to contesting the 2027 election.

He urged the ADC campaign council to concentrate on presenting its candidate’s credentials and policy proposals to Nigerians rather than making allegations against the NDC leadership.

Kwankwaso further called on Atiku’s camp to respond to criticisms reportedly directed at the former vice-president by Vice-President Kashim Shettima instead of focusing on him and Obi.

The former Kano State governor also criticised the APC-led administration and argued that the ADC did not offer a better alternative for Nigerians.

He said the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would prioritise national unity and address major national challenges, including insecurity, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and the economy.

The disagreement highlights the growing tensions among opposition parties as political leaders consider possible alliances and strategies ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
