The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has suffered a setback ahead of the 2027 general elections following the resignation of its governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim.
Kashim announced his resignation in a letter dated October 16, 2026, addressed to the NDC chairman in Bauchi Local Government Area.
In the letter, he formally notified the party leadership of his decision to leave the party, stating that his resignation took effect from the date of the letter.
The former governorship candidate explained that his decision followed careful consideration and was based on personal choice. However, he did not provide further details about the reasons behind his departure.
Kashim also expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership and members for the opportunity to be associated with the NDC.
He acknowledged the support he received during his time in the party and requested that his resignation be formally acknowledged, with the necessary updates made to the party’s membership records.
His resignation comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with candidates and their supporters working to strengthen their positions ahead of the polls.
Kashim’s departure raises questions about the future of the NDC’s governorship campaign in Bauchi State, particularly as the party seeks to establish its presence in the state’s political landscape.
However, the former candidate did not disclose whether he intends to join another political party or continue pursuing his governorship ambition under a different platform.
The development comes months after Kashim emerged as the NDC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election. Before his emergence as the party’s candidate, he served as Secretary to the Bauchi State Government under Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration.
His next political move remains uncertain as the 2027 elections approach.
