The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that no opposition party in Nigeria can match its political structure and organisational strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, made the declaration on Wednesday during the inauguration of Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Yilwatda said the APC’s nationwide structure, which he described as comprising more than 261,000 party executive members and 31 governors, gave it a significant advantage over rival political parties. He also claimed that two governors from other political parties were supporting the President’s re-election bid.
According to the APC chairman, the attendance of political leaders at the inauguration demonstrated the level of support Tinubu enjoys across different political affiliations. He expressed confidence that the party’s organisational strength and mobilisation capacity would contribute to its performance at the polls.
President Tinubu attended the event alongside Vice-President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, APC governors and other party leaders. The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, as well as Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, were also present.
Yilwatda described the gathering as a demonstration of a shared commitment to supporting Tinubu and Shettima for another term. He also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections, suggesting that the level of political support reflected at the event pointed towards a strong electoral performance.
The APC chairman further praised the Tinubu administration, claiming that its infrastructure projects and other initiatives had produced visible results across the country. He maintained that the administration had made significant progress in its time in office.
The inauguration followed the release of the APC’s revised Presidential Campaign Council list, which outlined responsibilities for party leaders and political figures involved in the re-election campaign.
Under the arrangement, former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed Director-General of the council, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary. Wike was assigned the role of campaign coordinator for Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, while Adeleke and Soludo were listed as coordinators for Osun and Anambra states, respectively.
The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the ruling party seeking to consolidate its influence and secure another presidential victory.
Although the APC has expressed confidence in its political machinery, the strength of its organisation will ultimately be tested through voter participation, campaign performance and the outcome of the elections. Opposition parties will also have the opportunity to strengthen their structures, mobilise supporters and present their candidates and policy alternatives to Nigerians.
With political alignments and campaign activities continuing to develop, the 2027 election is expected to be a major test of the APC’s claimed dominance and the ability of rival parties to mount a competitive challenge.
The presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
