The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for ₦2 million in Ibadan and arrested two suspects, including the child’s mother and the owner of the health facility where she was delivered.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026, explaining that the incident occurred in Ido Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, the case was reported on October 15 by Mary Amos, a resident of Ogunwade, Ido, who raised concerns over the disappearance of her granddaughter. She told investigators that her 23-year-old daughter, Cecilia Amos, gave birth to the baby on September 6 at Ebepraise Health Centre but left with the child about seven days later and could not satisfactorily explain her whereabouts.
Following the complaint, police operatives arrested Cecilia for questioning. During interrogation, she allegedly implicated the owner of the health facility, Dr. Adeleke Ebenezer, 40, and another suspect, Hassan Oludunni, whom she accused of persuading her to participate in the arrangement and facilitating the baby’s sale to one Odunayo Folawewo.
Police investigations reportedly revealed that the transaction involved ₦2 million, with Cecilia allegedly receiving ₦1 million, while Ebenezer and Oludunni received ₦500,000 each.
The command confirmed that the baby girl had been successfully rescued and that Ebenezer had also been arrested. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Folawewo and other persons allegedly connected with the transaction.
The police reiterated their commitment to combating child trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons, urging members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of child trafficking and related criminal activities.
