Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to immediately stop presenting himself as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Imo West Senatorial District election slated for January 16, 2027.
Delivering judgment, Justice Obiora Egwuatu held that evidence presented before the court proved that Uzodinma did not win the May 18 primary election conducted by the APC and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Key Highlights of the Judgment:
- Winner Established: The court held that former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, secured the majority of lawful votes cast during the primary election and should be recognized as the rightful winner.
- Directives to APC and INEC: Justice Egwuatu ordered the ruling party to forward Okorocha’s name to INEC as its official candidate for the upcoming senatorial contest.
- Prohibition: The court explicitly restrained Governor Uzodinma from parading himself or carrying out any activities as the party’s standard-bearer for the Imo West senatorial seat.
