Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the payment of a 13th-month pension bonus to all state retirees, alongside an additional one-off welfare support package to cushion economic pressures.
The announcement was made during a gathering with state pensioners at the Ibom Hall Ground in Uyo, where the governor lauded the retirees for their discipline, organization, and continued contributions to society.
Key Highlights of the Announcement:
- The 13th-Month Bonus and Welfare Addition: In addition to the newly approved 13th-month pension bonus, Governor Eno directed the immediate addition of ₦10,000 to the November 2026 pension payment for every pensioner in the state.
- Progress on Gratuity Backlogs: The governor revealed that his administration has successfully paid ₦100 billion out of the accumulated ₦111 billion gratuity backlog inherited since 2012, assuring that the remaining balance will be fully settled before the conclusion of his first term.
- Healthcare Support for the Elderly: Governor Eno also urged retired workers aged 65 and above to enroll in the state’s free health insurance scheme designed to guarantee accessible and qualitative medical care for senior citizens.
