Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has maintained that northern political elites and ordinary citizens remain supportive of the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Basiru’s position comes amid ongoing political discussions about the level of support President Bola Tinubu enjoys in Northern Nigeria as political parties prepare for the next presidential election.
The APC chieftain has previously dismissed claims that northern political leaders are turning against Tinubu, insisting that the region remains committed to the President’s re-election bid.
He has argued that the administration’s infrastructure projects, political appointments and governance policies have strengthened its relationship with stakeholders across the North.
Basiru has also challenged claims that the region is aligning against the President, describing such assertions as inconsistent with the political situation on the ground.
The APC leadership has continued to call on party members and supporters to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and engage voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
President Tinubu is expected to face opposition candidates as political parties intensify consultations and mobilisation efforts ahead of the polls.
