A Federal High Court in Gusau has taken up a pre-election suit filed by APC Zamfara North Senatorial aspirant Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who is seeking to nullify the district’s primary election over his alleged exclusion from the exercise.

The suit, presided over by Justice Hassan Dikko, named the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as first to third defendants, respectively.

The matter came up for mention yesterday but could not advance as INEC’s participation remained unresolved. The court adjourned to June 25, directing that INEC should appear and all parties exchange pleadings before the next sitting.

Plaintiff’s counsel, Bello Galadi, said he was confident of establishing his client’s case through due process. “We believe the court will do justice to all parties,” he said, adding that pre-election matters were by law expected to be resolved expeditiously.

Lawyer to Senator Kaura, Jaysey Sharka, confirmed the case remained at the hearing stage.
