President Bola Tinubu has dismissed concerns about his health following his return to Nigeria after an extended working vacation in Europe, saying he is healthy and ready to resume official duties.
Tinubu spoke with journalists on Tuesday shortly after arriving in Lagos from Paris, France, where he spent the latter part of his vacation. Asked about concerns raised over his health during his prolonged stay abroad, the President insisted that nothing was wrong with him.
“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” Tinubu said, adding that rumours were inevitable in politics but that he was “healthy, sound, and ready to go.”
The President left Nigeria on August 30 for what was initially announced as a three-week working vacation in Europe. He travelled first to London before proceeding to Paris. His stay was subsequently extended by a few days, with the Presidency maintaining that he remained in touch with developments at home and continued to discharge his responsibilities while abroad.
Tinubu’s extended absence had generated public and political discussion, including questions about his health and the length of time he spent outside the country. The African Action Congress also instituted legal proceedings against the President and the National Assembly, alleging that he failed to notify the legislature before travelling.
While in France, Tinubu undertook some official engagements, including meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and business leaders. He also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Economic Zone.
The President returned to Lagos on September 29 and is expected to resume official engagements as Nigeria prepares to mark its Independence anniversary on October 1.
