‘The Bar Is My Constituency’ — NBA President Badejo-Okusanya Pledges Inclusive Leadership

The newly inaugurated President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, FCIArb, has pledged to lead an inclusive Bar, declaring that her administration will accommodate every member of the Association irrespective of their choices during the recently concluded NBA National Officers Election.

Badejo-Okusanya gave the assurance in her inaugural address, where she extended a hand of fellowship not only to lawyers who supported her candidacy but also to those who voted for other contestants.

According to the NBA President, the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of collective responsibility towards strengthening the Association and the legal profession.

She stressed that her leadership would not be restricted to those who supported her during the election, declaring: “The Bar is still my constituency.”

Badejo-Okusanya also acknowledged her co-contestants, noting that their participation enriched the electoral process and demonstrated their willingness to contribute to the development of the profession.

She invited the other candidates, their supporters and the ideas they promoted during the campaign to become part of the work of her administration, signalling an intention to build bridges following the contest.

The NBA President further declared that there would be no division between winners and losers under her leadership, emphasising that the Association remained one professional body with a collective responsibility to leave the Bar stronger than it was inherited.

Her remarks set an early tone for the new NBA administration, with reconciliation, engagement and inclusiveness positioned as important elements of its leadership approach.
