African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has demanded international sanctions against Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the organisers of the Ikogosi Marathon following a violent assault directed at him and his team in Ado-Ekiti.
Sowore accused the state government and security operatives of orchestrating the incident, alleging that thugs linked to the Government House carried out the attack with tracking and operational support from the Department of State Services (DSS).
Key Highlights of the Demand:
- Calls for Accountability: Sowore insisted that those behind the violence must not escape accountability, announcing plans to pursue legal remedies through both domestic and international channels.
- Rejection of Official Accounts: The activist strongly faulted the Ekiti State Police Command for characterizing the assault as a mere “altercation” resulting in minor injuries, maintaining that he and his team were targeted by armed thugs who threatened their lives.
- Stance on Sports and Politics: Condemning the developments surrounding the regional marathon event, Sowore stressed that sporting competitions must never be weaponized into platforms for political intimidation or violence against dissenting voices.
