The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate, recovered six stolen cows and foiled a suspected abduction attempt in separate operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the arrests followed a distress call received in the early hours of July 25 that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and stolen seven cows.
According to Babaseyi, operatives of the Sagamu Division immediately launched coordinated patrols along identified escape routes and intercepted suspicious vehicles on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway.
The operation led to the arrest of two suspects, Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37.
Police also recovered six of the seven stolen cows and impounded a blue Nissan Cabster bus allegedly used by the suspects to carry out the operation.
The command said investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining cow and apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large.

In a separate operation on July 26, operatives of the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team thwarted a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The patrol team, while conducting routine confidence-building patrols, reportedly responded to gunshots in the area. Their prompt intervention forced the suspected kidnappers to abandon their mission and flee into a nearby bush.
The victim was rescued unhurt and escorted, alongside his vehicle, to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary police procedures. Police said normalcy has since been restored to the area, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the officers involved in both operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, courage, and vigilance.
He said the successes demonstrated the Command’s enhanced operational capacity and commitment to intelligence-led policing, rapid response, and proactive crime prevention.
Ojajuni also reassured residents that the Command remains committed to sustaining strategic patrols, strengthening intelligence gathering, and responding promptly to credible security information from the public.
