Nigerian newspapers review: Amend new tax law, PIA, Electricity Act now — NESG

Nigerian Economic Summit Group NESG

In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with the Nigeria Economic Summit Group, NESG, which has charged the National Assembly to amend the Nigeria Tax Act 2015, the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, and the Electricity Act 2023, and some other laws to enhance the business environment in Nigeria.

Another headline features the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, which declared that Nigeria’s worsening security situation has escalated to a “state of war,” urging the federal government to urgently adopt extraordinary measures to address the crisis.

Vanguard also reports that the Federal Government, in its 2026 annual flood outlook, AFO, released on Wednesday, raised alarm that flooding would hit no fewer than 33 states of the federation, including Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Adamawa and Kebbi.

Moving to the next paper, The Guardian’s lead headline states that Nigeria continues to dig itself deeper into a debt hole, not necessarily because it borrows more than its peers, but it earns far less than it requires to service its liabilities.

Next paper, The Punch leads with the Nigerian Army laying to rest the remains of the late Commander, 29 Joint Taskforce Brigade, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other soldiers killed in recent insurgents attacks in Borno State.

Lastly, The Nation’s lead headline states that the struggle for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is tearing supporters of major aspirants apart ahead of the primaries.
