The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has recorded major drug seizures across nine states, including 966,200 tablets of Tramadol 225mg valued at over ₦1.1 billion and 2,145kg of cannabis concealed inside a specially constructed compartment of a fuel tanker. The details are corroborated by the NDLEA’s official statement.
The Tramadol consignment was intercepted at the Lagos airport after operatives discovered 21 cartons of the opioid concealed among thrift trousers imported from Pakistan. NDLEA also recovered 57.80kg of “Loud”, valued at more than ₦173 million, hidden inside cartons of disposable hand gloves in a shipment from Singapore.
In Ondo State, operatives intercepted a 20,000-litre fuel tanker along the Akoko/Lokoja Expressway on September 4 after its driver allegedly refused to stop. The driver subsequently abandoned the tanker at a church premises in Ugbe Akoko and fled into the bush.
A search uncovered a false compartment containing 165 bags of cannabis weighing 2,145kg, hidden alongside the tanker’s legitimate fuel cargo reportedly destined for Jos, Plateau State. The agency said the vehicle had previously evaded interception.
The nationwide crackdown also produced significant seizures in Lagos, Adamawa, Kogi, Taraba, Kaduna, Ekiti and Enugu, including cannabis-laced cookies and gummies, methamphetamine and hundreds of thousands of opioid pills.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.) commended officers involved in the operations and said traffickers employing sophisticated concealment methods and legitimate business fronts would continue to be targeted.
