The Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, has called on Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to intervene urgently in the indefinite strike by members of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria in the state.
In a letter dated 27 July 2026 and signed by the branch chairman, J. S. Muhammad, the NBA warned that the prolonged absence of government lawyers was already affecting the administration of justice and the operations of public institutions.
The branch said law officers perform essential functions that include conducting criminal prosecutions, representing the state in civil proceedings, advising ministries and agencies, and preparing or reviewing legal instruments. It noted that disruption of those services could cause adjournments, delay prosecutions and expose the state to avoidable legal and financial risks.
While recognising the right of workers to pursue improved conditions through lawful industrial action, the association asked the government to address concerns relating to remuneration, welfare, career progression and working conditions through meaningful dialogue.
It further urged the state government to implement existing agreements, strengthen institutional support for the Ministry of Justice and take practical steps towards a lasting settlement.
The NBA Ilorin Branch also expressed readiness to support negotiations and encouraged both the government and the striking law officers to pursue a peaceful resolution in the wider interest of justice delivery and public confidence.
