A Professor of Law, John Ntui Ntuiabane, has placed allegations of degrading treatment and other constitutional violations before the Federal High Court in Abuja in a fundamental-rights action arising from a disputed parcel of land in the Federal Capital Territory.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2635/2025, is being heard by Justice James Omotosho. It concerns a confrontation said to have occurred in Guduwa District on November 13, 2025.
In court filings, Ntuiabane alleged that military personnel compelled him to perform a physically degrading exercise in public and mistreated Chief J. J. Edem, a senior legal practitioner, during the incident. The allegations have not been judicially established and remain contested.
The professor named senior defence officials, service chiefs, a former Chief of Naval Staff, a military officer and the Attorney-General of the Federation among the defendants. He is asking the court to determine whether the alleged conduct violated constitutional protections relating to dignity, movement and freedom from discrimination.
Ntuiabane also challenged aspects of the affidavit evidence filed for the Army and asked the court to summon officers allegedly involved in the confrontation for cross-examination. He said photographs taken by witnesses were attached to his processes.
The action also raises questions about representative public-interest litigation where the persons said to have been affected cannot all be individually identified.
Justice Omotosho has adjourned the matter until October 8, 2026, for hearing.
