The Lagos State Government has advised motorists and commuters to avoid the Pen Cinema–Agege corridor on Wednesday as increased vehicular and pedestrian movement is expected around the area.
The warning follows the planned commissioning of the Fresh Food Hub at Pen Cinema, Agege, by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The event is being organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems and is expected to attract a large number of government officials, guests, traders, residents and other visitors to the area.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, issued the advisory, urging road users who have no urgent business around the affected corridor to consider alternative routes during the period.
Osiyemi said the anticipated influx of vehicles and pedestrians could result in significant congestion around Pen Cinema and adjoining parts of Agege, particularly while the commissioning ceremony is underway.
He advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance and make use of alternative routes where possible in order to minimise delays and avoid being caught in the expected traffic build-up.
The commissioner said the state government had also deployed officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to strategic locations around the area to regulate traffic and assist with the movement of vehicles.
He appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic management personnel and exercise patience while navigating the affected routes.
According to him, the temporary traffic arrangement is necessary to ensure that the commissioning ceremony is conducted smoothly while also minimising the impact of the expected increase in human and vehicular movement on other road users.
The government expressed regret over any inconvenience the situation may cause residents and commuters, while urging the public to cooperate with the authorities throughout the period.
The Fresh Food Hub forms part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to strengthen the state’s food distribution infrastructure and improve access to agricultural produce and food-related services.
Motorists travelling through the Agege axis on Wednesday are therefore advised to take the traffic warning into consideration, particularly during the 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. period when the commissioning is scheduled to take place.
The state government said traffic management personnel would remain on ground to ease movement and reduce the effect of the expected congestion around the venue.
