A Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced a couple, Harry Uyanwanne and Oluwakemi Odia, also known as Kristein Uyanwanne, to 14 years’ imprisonment each over a ₦67.6 million fraud case.

The court, presided over by Justice Mojisola Dada, also directed the defendants to refund ₦67,659,592 to the petitioner, Olusola Odemuyiwa.

The judgment was delivered on Monday, November 2, 2026.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said the couple was convicted on charges of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence. They were discharged on a separate count of forgery.

Justice Dada sentenced each defendant to three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy, one year for stealing and 10 years for obtaining money by false pretence. The sentences were imposed without an option of fine.

However, the court ordered that the sentence against the first defendant be suspended until he is apprehended.

The couple had pleaded not guilty to the charges. During the trial, the prosecution, led by Fadeke Giwa, called three witnesses and presented documentary evidence, while the defence called one witness.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants unlawfully dealt with property belonging to beneficiaries of the estate of the late Dr Moshood Babatunde Odemuyiwa.

One of the charges centred on the sale of a property at Plot 19, Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute Meta, Oyingbo, Lagos, for ₦16 million in 2010. The defendants were accused of falsely claiming they had the beneficiaries’ authority to sell the property.

The EFCC maintained that the couple had no such authorisation and had conspired to dishonestly take possession of property belonging to the estate’s beneficiaries.

After considering the evidence, the court found the defendants guilty of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence, and ordered them to make full restitution of ₦67,659,592 to Odemuyiwa.
