The High Court of Justice of Kogi State has disowned a viral social-media claim suggesting that it ordered the deregistration of the National Democratic Congress.
In a clarification issued by the court’s information office, the judiciary said it had not heard or determined any matter concerning the registration or deregistration of the party—or any other political party.
The court said the misleading online publication was accompanied by images of the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, and former governor Yahaya Bello, creating an inaccurate impression that the alleged decision originated from the state judiciary.
It urged content creators and members of the public to verify court-related information before publication, particularly where an unverified claim could affect confidence in judges or judicial institutions.
The clarification also reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to deciding matters fairly and independently. Members of the public were advised to disregard the purported deregistration order.
