The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Adeniyi Adeyemi before an Abuja High Court on a 22-count charge bordering on forgery and impersonation.
Adeyemi is accused of masterminding the “Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council” (PFIPC), a fictitious government agency that operated out of an office space at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and recruited staff without legal backing.
Key Highlights of the Arraignment:
- The Forgery Charges: Prosecutors alleged that the defendant forged a document dated March 8, 2024, bearing a reference purportedly signed and issued by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to legitimize his position as director-general of the unauthorized body.
- Defense and Bail Application: Adeyemi’s counsel informed the court that his client had already spent 155 days in detention and was dealing with health concerns. The trial judge, Justice Halilu Yusuf, directed the defense to file a formal written bail application.
- Next Court Date: Justice Yusuf adjourned the matter to November 9 for the commencement of trial and hearing of the defendant’s bail application.
