A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Gombe State has ordered the remand of a constabulary officer, Idris Salisu, following allegations that he threatened to kill two police officers with a knife at a police outpost.
The defendant was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court No. 12, presided over by Chief Magistrate Musa Wadachi, on a charge of criminal intimidation under Section 396 of the Penal Code Law.
The prosecution alleged that the incident occurred in July 2026, at about 1pm, when Salisu visited the Barunde Police Outpost.
Prosecuting counsel, Aliyu Ibrahim Garba, told the court that the defendant allegedly picked up a knife and threatened to kill two officers, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sule and Inspector Peter Joel.
Garba said the alleged threat amounted to criminal intimidation, an offence punishable under Section 396 of the Penal Code Law.
The prosecution maintained that the alleged conduct was serious, given that the threat was directed at police officers at their duty post.
When the charge was read and explained to Salisu, he pleaded guilty.
Following the plea, Chief Magistrate Wadachi ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody pending further proceedings. The court adjourned the matter until November 9, 2026, for hearing.
The case raises questions about the conduct expected of personnel serving in security institutions, particularly where allegations involve threats against officers carrying out their duties.
However, the allegation remains a matter before the court, and further proceedings are expected to determine the legal outcome.
