Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to confront terrorism and criminality in the state, insisting that the government will neither negotiate with nor surrender to criminal elements.
Lawal made the declaration during a visit to Bungudu Local Government Area, where he met with traditional authorities and families affected by a recent bandit attack.
The governor began the visit at the palace of the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, where he expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the wider community over the attack.
Lawal described the situation as a difficult test for the people of the state but assured residents that his administration was committing resources and other necessary measures towards ending the persistent threat of banditry.
He appealed to residents to remain patient and steadfast, noting that the fight against insecurity would require sustained efforts and perseverance.
The governor also assured the affected families that the state government would continue to provide assistance to those injured in the attack and work towards securing the safe return of persons who were abducted.
He prayed for the families of those who lost their lives and expressed sympathy to the Emirate and residents of Bungudu over the incident.
The Emir of Bungudu, in his response, commended the governor for visiting the community and expressed confidence in the administration’s efforts to address insecurity across the state.
The traditional ruler, who said he serves on the state’s security council, said he was aware of measures being taken by the government to tackle banditry and expressed optimism that the security challenges confronting the state would eventually be overcome.
During the visit, Lawal also visited the families of the late Alhaji Bello Umar Bungudu and other victims of the attack to personally convey his condolences.
The governor’s renewed position comes amid continuing security challenges in Zamfara, where communities have faced attacks, kidnappings and other criminal activities.
Lawal maintained that his administration would continue to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and protecting residents, while refusing to yield to criminal elements operating in the state.
The governor’s message reinforces the position of his administration that security remains a priority and that the fight against banditry will be pursued through sustained government and security efforts.
