The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports of a renewed disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly over the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The government described the reports as misleading, insisting that there is no fresh confrontation between the executive and legislative arms of government.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, said Fubara was not at odds with the lawmakers and was instead working closely with them in the interest of Rivers State.
Nzeshi said the 2026 budget proposal, which reportedly formed the basis of the reports, had already been presented to the House of Assembly and was undergoing the normal legislative process.
He expressed confidence that the lawmakers would complete their consideration of the proposal and subsequently pass the Appropriation Bill.
The clarification comes against the background of the prolonged political crisis that previously characterised relations between the Rivers executive and legislature, making reports of any renewed disagreement particularly sensitive.
The state government, however, maintained that the current situation should not be interpreted as a return to the political confrontation that had previously affected governance in Rivers State.
According to Nzeshi, the administration remains focused on working with the legislature to advance the interests of residents and ensure the smooth running of government.
He urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting that the governor and lawmakers were engaged in another political dispute.
The clarification also comes as the state government moves forward with consideration of its 2026 financial plan, with the executive expressing optimism that the legislative process will be concluded without disruption.
The Rivers State Government therefore reaffirmed its commitment to cooperation between the two arms of government, stressing that the focus remains on governance and the delivery of services to the people of the state.
