The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered an alleged international visa fraud scheme involving over ₦50 million and rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals reportedly held against their will in Sagamu, Ogun State, after being lured to Nigeria with promises of securing Canadian and Spanish visas.
The victims, comprising seven men and four women, were rescued by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following intelligence received on October 19, 2026. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operatives immediately moved to the identified hideout and successfully secured the release of all 11 victims.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly deceived by a fellow Ghanaian national who offered to facilitate their overseas travel. Each victim reportedly paid GH₵40,000 before being brought to Nigeria, where they were subsequently held against their will.
The police disclosed that the rescued victims were receiving appropriate care and support, while investigations had been intensified to identify and apprehend those responsible for the alleged criminal operation.
Reacting to the development, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its swift intervention and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to combat transnational criminal activities and prevent Ogun State from becoming a safe haven for individuals exploiting unsuspecting persons seeking opportunities abroad.
The Commissioner assured that efforts would continue until those behind the alleged scheme were brought to justice. He also urged members of the public to verify overseas travel and visa-processing arrangements before making payments and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
