Oromoni family protests suspects’ bail

The family of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, the pupil of Dowen College, Lagos, alleged to have been killed by his schoolmates, have kicked against the bail granted five pupils of the school being tried for Oromoni Jnr’s murder.

A Magistrate’s Court in Yaba on Tuesday granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million each.

Father of the deceased, Mr. Sylvester Oromoni Snr, who spoke to reporters in Asaba, yesterday, queried the decision of the court to grant the suspects bail when the 21 days requested by the police for investigation were yet to elapse.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) I was called that those boys were granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos. I said why? I called the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, and he told me that the police were not done with investigation.

“I called the DCP in charge of the case who later confirmed to me that the story was true.

“The court granted 21 days to keep those boys and the 21 days had not expired when the court granted them bail. I am calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, Lagos State Government and the Inspector General of Police to please take note.

“Secondly, the police said they were not done with investigation, and that granting the boys bail will not help their investigation.

“The family is saying that they should allow the police to conclude their investigation,” he said.
