NDLEA Impounds Illicit Drugs Worth Over N25m

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it impounded illicit drugs worth over N25 million in Kano state from July to date.
The Commandant of the agency in the state, Alhaji Ahmadu Garba, disclosed this in an interview on Monday in Kano.
According to him, the drugs that were seized include Cannabis Sativa, Psychotropic substance, cocaine and Heroin.
Garba added that from January to date, the command had arrested no fewer than 314 suspects in connection with drug offences.
He said the suspects had been charged to Federal High Court in Kano for prosecution.
He said that 83 of the suspects had been convicted while other cases were ongoing.
The commandant said that the command intercepted a truck carrying goods from Ogun state, with 97 kilograms of Cannabis on Wednesday.
Stating that investigation revealed that the truck owner was unaware of the “business” the driver used it for, he urged truck owners in the state to collaborate with the agency while recruiting drivers for their vehicles.
Garba also called on truck drivers and other commercial vehicle drivers to desist from transporting illicit drugs.
