Jos carpenter jailed 18 months for stealing neighbour’s phone

A 23-year-old Jos carpenter identified as Abdul Ado has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to stealing his neighboour’s cellphone worth N158,000.

Ado was arraigned before Magistrate’s Court in Jos, on Wednesday.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Oct.3 at the “A” Division police station by Chinonzo Isaac, the complainant.

Gokwat said that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s room while he was sleeping and stole his cellphone worth N158,000 and sold it for N25,000.

Magistrate Irene Pati sentenced Ado after he pleaded guilty to trespass and theft.

Pati, in her judgment however gave the convict an option of fine of N30 ,000 or spend six months in prison for trespass and N60,000 or one year for theft.

She also ordered him to pay compensation of N158, 000 to the complainant.
