A 33-year-old Ogun man identified as Temitope Ganiyu has been remanded in prison after he was arraigned for dragging and tearing the cloth of a police officer, ASP Badejo Taofeek.
Ganiyu was arraigned before Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Friday, on a three-count charge of assault, maliciously damage and breach of peace.
Ganiyu, whose address was not provided, was charged with assaulting a police officer in the course of discharging his duty at the station.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at the Ota Divisional Police Headquarters.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted ASP Taofeek with appointment number 178714, by dragging him on the floor and tearing his cloth.
Adaraloye said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by further assaulting a police officer, Florence Adedapo.
He added that the defendant maliciously damaged a Samsung A07 Android Phone valued at N210,000.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O Fadairo, remanded the defendant in the correction centre and adjourned the case until Aug.10, for further hearing. -(NAN)
