25 Year Old Man Face Jail Term For Attempted Theft

A 25- year-old man whose name was given as Unity Agbonifo was on Wednesday jailed for one year and six months by an Evbouriaria Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo State, for attempting to steal a Blackberry phone.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olatoye Oluwaseun, told the Court that the convict committed the crime on March 21, at No. 16, off Sapele Road in Benin.
Oluwaseun told the Court that the convict damaged the PVC ceiling of his victim, Mr Alfred Omoruyi, while he was trying to escape with the blackberry phone valued at N35,000.
He also told the court that the PVC ceiling damaged by the convict worth the sum of N17,000.
The Prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 509 and 451 of the Criminal Code cap 48 vol. II laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.
Mrs. C.E. Oghuma, he Magistrate, however sentenced the convict to one year in count one, with option of N20,000  and jailed him for six months in count two, with option of N10,000.
