Group faults dissolution of varsities’ governing council

A group, Peace Advocacy Committee, {PAC} has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider the recent blanket dissolution of Federal Government Boards and Parastatals.
Addressing reporters in Osogbo, Osun state specifically on the dissolution of Governing Councils of Federal Universities across the country, the Secretary, Mr. Adeyemi Adetise said inclusion of university boards in the dissolved boards by federal government amounts to tampering with the laws that established them.
According to the group the Universities (Miscellaneous Provision) (Amendment) Act, 2003 guarantees the tenure of each university governing board insisting that the federal government should uphold the principle.
The group cited relevant section of the Act: “The Council shall have a tenure of four years from the date of its inauguration provided that where a council is found to be incompetent and corrupt, it shall be dissolved by the Visitor and a new Council shall be immediately constituted for the active functioning of the university”.
