Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cancelled 485 Area Council land documents in Abuja after they failed official verification.

The FCT Administration (FCTA) said the affected applications did not pass genuineness checks and were confirmed to be fake. The decision was conveyed in a public notice issued by the Departments of Land Administration and the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS).

The notice stated that the minister approved the cancellation of applications that failed verification and that the nullified documents would be removed from the regularisation database. It added that the action was without prejudice to further notices.

The affected documents cut across several districts and satellite towns. In Bwari Area Council, the impacted layouts include Ushafa Village Expansion Scheme, Ushafa Extension and Dawaki Extension 1. In Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), they cover Kurudu-Jikwoyi Relocation, Kurudu Commercial, Karu Village Extension, Nyanya Phase IV Extension, Jikwoyi Residential, Sabon Lugbe and Lugbe I Extension. Kuchiyako One layout in Kuje Area Council is also affected.

Land in the FCT is vested in the Federal Government under the Land Use Act, 1978, and titles must be issued by the FCT minister and documented through AGIS. The latest action is linked to forgery and lack of authenticity, rather than non-payment or non-development issues, the administration said.
