Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has suspended nationwide enforcement of its Tinted Glass Permit policy following an interim court order restraining the action, raising fresh legal questions around a security measure earlier slated to resume this month.

The police had announced on December 15, 2025, that enforcement of the policy would recommence on January 2, 2026, citing public safety and internal security concerns. But just two days later, on December 17, a court issued an interim order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, directing the Force to halt enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or until the order is vacated.

According to the police, the interim injunction legally bars any enforcement action for now. In compliance with the order, the Force has entered an appearance in court, filed preliminary objections, and applied for the order to be set aside. The matter has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

“As a law-abiding institution, the Nigeria Police Force is bound to respect and comply with subsisting court orders,” the Force said, confirming that enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy has been placed on hold nationwide.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law, stressing that public safety efforts would continue through lawful and intelligence-driven policing strategies. He added that the police remain focused on protecting lives and property across the country, even as the legal process unfolds.

The Force assured members of the public that further updates and clear guidance would be issued after the court’s determination, emphasizing that all actions will be taken in the overriding interest of public order and national security.

The statement was signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, at Force Headquarters in Abuja, and dated January 1, 2026.
