International Women’s Day: A Tribute to Resilience and Equality: By Sir. Oaikhena Osagie.
Dear Learned Colleagues, Mothers, Wives, Sisters, and Friends.
Today, we celebrate the remarkable women who shape our world. This occasion is one I acknowledge with great joy, rooted in a profound respect for my own mother and the collective strength of women globally.

We must begin by affirming a fundamental truth: equality is not a mere aspiration, but a fact. It is a principle attested to by the Holy Bible, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and various regional and international treaties.

In every sphere of life, you have demonstrated the truth in Socrates’ words: “Measure what can be measured and make measurable that which cannot be measured.” I particularly salute my noble female colleagues who masterfully balance the rigorous demands of legal practice with the vital roles of womanhood.

As Pope John Paul II eloquently wrote in his 1995 Letter to Women:

“Thank you, every woman, for the simple fact of being a woman! Through the insight which is so much a part of your womanhood you enrich the world’s understanding and help to make human relations more honest and authentic.”
Happy International Women’s Day.

Sincerely,

Oaikhena Osagie, LL.M, ACTI
