The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Adewale, has issued a directive to all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify patrols and conduct comprehensive raids on uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts within their jurisdictions.

According to the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and ensure the safety of lives and property across the territory.

“The directive, which takes immediate effect, forms part of proactive measures to prevent criminals from using abandoned or active construction sites as hideouts or operational bases,” the statement read.

In line with this directive, property developers have been urged to report to their nearest police divisions and ensure that all security personnel, artisans, and labourers staying at construction sites are properly documented and profiled before the end of October 2025.

CP Adewale also instructed DPOs to conduct regular patrols of these sites and to arrest any unidentified individuals found on-site after 6:00 p.m.

In a further security measure, the Commissioner reiterated that scavenging activities, commonly known as “Baban Bola”, remain strictly prohibited throughout the FCT.

“Residents are advised to report any scavengers or suspicious individuals seen in their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station without delay,” the spokesperson added.

CP Adewale emphasised that security is a collective responsibility and called on residents, estate associations, and community leaders to support police efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting unusual movements in their areas.

He also advised that all security guards and domestic staff should be formally profiled by the police, and residents should avoid accommodating unknown persons in their homes or surroundings.

Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activity via the FCT Police Command’s emergency lines: 0803 200 3913 or 0806 158 1938.
