Legal Nigeria

Nigeria @ 61 By Jide Akinrotimi, Esq.

Jide Akinrotimi

Recall on October 1st 1960, when Prime Minister Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa received the constitutional instruments symbolizing Nigeria’s independence, he expressed his wish that having acquired our rightful status as an independent sovereign nation, history would record that the building of our nation proceeded at the wisest pace.

Our leaders only need a sincere process of national healing and this anniversary envisages a genuine opportunity to eliminate old and unworn perception of our dear Country, Nigeria.
In the best interest of Nigerians, a responsible government must be strong to face realities and take tough decisions to accelerate and revisit the current challenges. Nigeria at 61 must move from lamentations of security challenges to guaranteed security, to stable fuel industrialization, socio-economic recovery and diversification.

To this end, may I also call the attention of our leaders that thousands of compatriots are falling victims to extra-judicial killings, arbitrary arrests and illegal detention in dehumanizing cells which underscore the horrible situation our leaders are failing to address.

In spite of all, in Oneness we can change our condition for the better and more importantly, together we can do much more for ourselves and for our dear country.

Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
God bless us all.
