NBA Lagos YLF Opens Entries for 2025 Alex Ekwueme Essay Competition

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) has announced the commencement of the 2025 Alex Ekwueme Essay Competition in honour of Dr. Alex Ekwueme, GCON, a former Vice President of Nigeria and a renowned advocate of good governance.

Themed “The Rule of Law and Political Accountability in Modern Nigeria: The Gap Between Principle and Practice,” the competition aims to promote critical thinking among young lawyers and encourage discourse on strengthening Nigeria’s democratic and legal systems.

According to the YLF, the competition is open to young lawyers of the Lagos Branch who are seven years post-call and below. Entries must be between 1,500 and 2,000 words, typed in Times New Roman (12pt, 1.5 line spacing), and submitted in .pdf or .docx format.

Submissions containing AI-generated or plagiarized content will be disqualified. Participants are to exclude personal details from the essay document but include them in the official submission form.

Prizes include ₦500,000 for the first-place winner and ₦300,000 for the second place.
