NBA Ikeja Condemns Killing of Female Colleague by Police Officer, Extends Condolences to Deceased’s Family

The Nigerian Bar Association Ikeja Branch is deeply saddened and outraged by the killing of our esteemed colleague, Bolanle Raheem, by a policeman on Christmas Day. We strongly condemn this tragic and unnecessary loss of life and demand that justice be served.

As members of the legal profession, it is our duty to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights and freedom of all citizens. The killing of Bolanle Raheem is a blatant violation of these principles and must not be tolerated.

As a Branch that is ever proactive on issues of rule of law amongst others, we are on top of the situation and already working with the other Branches of NBA in Lagos State to get to the root of this unfortunate incident. Specifically, the Chairman and some of our Bar leaders are currently on their way to the Commisioner of Police’ office as directed by the President of the Bar. Our Vice Chairman is currently at Ajiwe police station to join other NBA branches in Lagos State.

We also call on the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident and bring those responsible to justice. We therefore call on the Commissioner of Police to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future and to work towards building a more peaceful and just society.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Bolanle Raheem and stand with them in their time of grief. Above all, we pray for the repose of our colleague’ soul. Rest in peace, Bolanle.

Signed:
For the Executive Committee
