Dear Distinguished Colleagues,
The Governing Board of the Nigerian Bar Association Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) is happy to announce the launch of a series of trainings for Nigerian lawyers on various emerging areas of law including Digital Transitions and Energy Transitions in collaboration with the NLNG Legal Learning Academy (NLLA) of Nigeria’s foremost gas company, Nigeria LNG Limited.
The first in the series of trainings which is scheduled to take place on 5 and 6 June 2023, is titled ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Structuring for Tech Innovation’ and will be delivered by a team of experts from one of the world’s leading law firms, Allen & Overy with a faculty led by William Samengo- Turner and Flip Van Elsen. Both are partners in the Global Tech Team of Allen & Overy with deep Silicon Valley and global experience.
The NBA-ICLE, with the support of the President of the NBA, has continued to build partnerships with various stakeholders for the purpose of improving the knowledge base of lawyers and adding value to their practices. The NBA-ICLE/NLLA collaboration is one of such collaborative engagements and follows in the wake of previous collaborations with leading global law firms such as Akin Gump Straus & Feld, McDermott Will & Emery, and others to deliver trainings to Nigerian lawyers on emerging areas of law and practice.
The Tech Innovation training aims to provide participants with a clear structure to advise and assess opportunities for tech innovation across all sectors – including how their practices may be impacted by these developments. This is coming on the heels of the realisation that all businesses (including law firms) must now confront the challenges of technological innovation and disruption and similarly take advantage of the opportunities arising therefrom.
I am very pleased with this partnership with the NLNG NLLA and all our knowledge partners. The world around us continues to evolve and as startup companies and tech investors continue to show massive interest in Nigeria, the Nigerian Bar Association and the NBA-ICLE in particular must constantly rise to the occasion by increasing the knowledge base of Nigerian lawyers in the area of contemporary law practice to ensure that Nigerian lawyers take ownership of this space and own a significant share of the legal-tech services market.
Meanwhile, kindly note that all NBA-ICLE courses are now available to be viewed for free on YouTube Channel NBA ICLE.
Chairman, Board of NBA-ICLE
