Man arraigned for N46m fraud

A 61-year-old man, Patrick Oke, who allegedly obtained N46 million from his in-laws on false pretext was on Friday docked at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused is standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, fraud and resisting arrest, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The prosecutor, Insp. Jimoh Joseph, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between 2007 and 2009 at Ikoyi, Lagos.

He said Oke conspired with others, still at large, to defraud his in-laws to the tune of N46 million.

He added that on December 15 at 9.30 a.m. at No. 15, Femi Okunnu Street, Ikoyi, the defendant resisted arrest when the police, led by Insp. Kolawole Aderibigbe came to execute the warrant of arrest issued by the court.

The prosecutor noted that “the defendant unlawfully assaulted Insp. Babasola Afolayan, who was performing his lawful duty.”

Joseph said the offences contravened sections 112, 172 (a), 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2011.
