
The Adesina Ogunlana Memorial Lecture will take place on Friday, 12th September 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Bar Centre, High Court Premises, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
With the theme “Adesina Ogunlana: The Man, the Law and the Struggle for Social Justice”, the event will feature Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, SAN, former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, as Guest Speaker, and Mr. Olumide Fusika, SAN, as Chairman.
The late Adesina Ogunlana, not only a former Chairman of the NBA Ikeja Branch, but a fearless legal reformer and staunch protector of the vulnerable, who stood unflinchingly against corruption, judicial opacity, and state overreach.
- Student Leadership & Resistance: While studying law at Lagos State University, he served as Legal Secretary of the Student Union (1992–1994). He was expelled for leading anti-military and pro-student protests but reinstated after successfully challenging the decision in court .
- – Founding The Squib: In 2001, he launched The Squib, a bold anti-corruption legal magazine renowned for exposing judicial corruption. Despite bans, harassment, and detainments, he persisted—against all odds .
- Legal Activism & NBA Leadership: As NBA Ikeja’s Chairman, he mobilized the bar and citizens against the 2018 Land Use Charge increase in Lagos—forcing the government to suspend the hike and hold public hearings . He also served as Lead Counsel for #EndSARS petitioners before the Lagos State Judicial Panel .
- Legacy of Courage & Advocacy: Described as a “beacon of hope” and “relentless human rights defender,” his activism spanned court reforms, good governance, and civic mobilization. He repeatedly defied oppression and exposed corruption with unwavering resolve .
